At Publications International, Ltd., the 5th largest children's publications company, Kurt Stirnkorb, founder of Stirnkorb.com, worked on a variety of web projects, acting as a full life cycle developer responsible for creative, front end GUI design, database construction, stored procedure authoring, back end coding and technical documentation. Some of the sites worked on were pilbooks.com, myactiveminds.com, storyreaders.com, newseasonsbookandgift.com, among others. One particular project called for the creation of an online interactive demo for a children's electronic learning tool called ActivePad. To accomplish this every sound had to extracted from the unit itself by conventional recording means and then be converted to MP3 format after which it was ultimately embedded as an asset into a Shockwave Flash component that looked in every way just like the product. Every action of the product itself - from games to spelling algorithms and even the stylus control - had to be programmed from scratch using Flash ActionScript.
